This is the second time I have made up this versatile dress - 710 Shirtwaister Dress. This time I recorded every step and I will have it finished soon.
Shown here in denim and of course denim has to have top-stitching. It added some time to the process but well worth it.
I asked AI to show me the pattern made up in corduroy and also in a lightweight wool blend. Both fabrics will work so well on this design.

AI Can Inspire your Designs
I love this image of three of my sewing patterns. I am excited to be able to use AI to illustrate how versatile sewing patterns can be. I will be showing you many more images of my patterns to inspire you with your own creations.
The 657 Frock Coat is exactly the garment and in the fabric I made up originally. The 951 Cropped Paalazzo Trousers I made up in black denim but they are shown here made up in is a soft probably Italian dark blue woven wool, which works so well. The 540 Classic Shirt is beautifully coordinated made up in a soft, probably silk or lightweight cotton shirting.
Try the Boxy Jacket in tweed check. A lovely interpretation of the 647 Boxy Jacket pattern. Shown here with the 931 Front Pleat Trousers

The 747 Winter Party Dress will look beautiful in a lightweight wool check. A Viyella type fabric would be ideal. Do you remember Viyella?

I have been looking back at earlier patterns for some time and wondering if I should update them - adding seam allowances, cutting out layouts, fabric buying information etc. It would take ages! New Pattern for July 2025
Late spring found me working on a long promised slow version of my Making Selvedge Jeans video. I made the fast version in May 2024. It is complete and thorough but crammed into 40 minutes so that it can be watched in one go. Although this proved very popular with many of my members, I was getting some feedback requesting a more leasurely version, so I had to get this done before I could get on with my plans for new patterns for summer. These videos take me some time to produce of course! This 7 Part Series Making Selvedge Jeans is well worth watching.
So at last I'm free to get on with new designs! I think you will love the 710 Shirtwaister Dress. It was fun getting exactly the look I wanted - it's both casual and formal. I love the tailored collar and the off the shoulder sleeve gives it a relaxed feel. Having a defined waist makes it easier to wear in some cases than a loose shirtdress that is pulled in with a sash. Front pleats and roomy pockets complete the look.
Although this is a summer pattern, this will be popular for autumn dressing. It would be easy to line if you plan to make it up in wool.

Perfect Shirt PDF Sewing Pattern 551 for Palazzo Trousers
I can't remember when I bought this gorgeous fabric. It was obviously one of those spontaneous buys with no plan as to what it would make. I try not to do that these days! But I'm glad I kept it and look what it made. I ended up lining it though and perhaps a more delicate lining woud have retained its lovely floaty property but I used the lining I had - very much my mantra. I'm determined to reduce all my stock of fabric and from now on shop for fabric that fits with my current mood and interest. Although I have to say, I have never had a large 'stash', as everyone calls it these days. I don't like being confronted with fabric and ideas that I liked in the past.

Palazzo Trousers Sew Along update ....
The Palazzo Trousers Sew Along is now available. It is over 40 minutes long - is this too long? I had to include some high speed clips otherwise it would have run into hours! I would love to have your feedback on whether you would prefer a more leisurely pace spread over several separate videos, the way I have produced them in the past.

February Update ....
The Sew Along garment is complete. I am working hard to finish the editing of the video. This has taken a little while because of the detail I go into and I know that it is appreciated by beginner sewers.
